What a way to finish our year! Yes that favourite occupation of ours ......eating. Just one week after our 7 pudding marathon, it was time to get together for our Christmas Lunch. Following last year's successful visit, we returned to Revills. 21 of us enjoyed a superb Christmas Lunch, well presented and much enjoyed; puddings were on the menu but only one this time! Pictures below of 2 of the starters and a dessert:-
Our last WI Meeting for the year was a Pudding Night. Suitably dressed in Christmas jumpers, hats and accessories, members enjoyed a taste of seven puddings (yes - seven) plus cheese & crackers. The Hall and tables were decorated, music was playing; we had sale tables, secret Santa socks, a free raffle and a table decoration competition. Lots going on so much so that we didn’t have time for our entertainment but we did finish the evening with some carol singing. A lovely night to finish the year on .... and photos? Well your blogger was having too good a time to remember to take them!
Our crafters sometimes enjoy having a go at home at some of the things we have done over the past couple of years. Here are a couple of examples of leaded jars done one by one our ladies, as well as some cards and a basket. They also go to County & Denman College; one of our ladies recently attended a Lino-cut print workshop and produced fabulous Christmas Cards (the blue & white card).
Our last WITCH session of 2019 saw a select group of crafters making Christmas Cards using 3 different methods. With music playing in the background, posh biscuits and tea to hand, what a pleasant way to spend a winter evening. Hope to see crafters old & new in 2020.
Several of our members recently joined the County Trip to Winchester. This is what one of our members had to say: “ Eckington W I only had to travel to Pershore to our luxury coach that was to take us to the wonderful city of Winchester in Hampshire. We were welcomed by our friendly driver Graham who informed us that we were going to ‘Winchester Christmas Market’….what a bonus. After a brief comfort stop on route, we arrived around midday to enjoy and explore this small city.
The landmark of Winchester is the Medieval Cathedral with its roots in the 7th Century and Winchester Cathedral foundations were laid in 1079 and has been a place of worship ever since and is one of the largest Cathedrals in Europe. Visitors are made most welcome to the Cathedral and you can either walk round by yourself or take advantage of one of the many guides. There isthe newly opened Kings and Scribes exhibition spread over three floors, which has been a seven-year project and well worth a visit. In the grounds of the Cathedral, there were some attractive Christmas Market wooden chalets selling a variety of gifts and of course the traditional mulled wine stall. There is a small museum (free entry) just off the High Street, with a wonderful scale model of Winchester. Winchester has many independent shops as well as old favourites like Debenhams and Marks and Spencers. Down the middle of the pedestrian High Street there were many covered market stalls selling fresh produce, gifts, antiques and fashion. There is not a shortage of places to have a coffee of somewhere to eat lunch. Once back on our coach with many full shopping bags we saw Winchester lit up with all the lovely Christmas lights as we said goodbye to a very enjoyable day.” |
