A nice start to our 2019/2020 season of WITCH. Using a variety of sticky back coloured films and lead strips, our crafters produced some lovely looking jars. The technique we used can be applied to jars and vases and is a superb way of jazzing up plain vases or preparing festive gift jars.
One of benefits of being part of a WI is the opportunity to mix with other groups and at least once a year, the Pershore group of WIs organise a joint event for the local WIs. This year Pershore WI took the lead and organised a Craft Dabble evening and 4 of us from Eckington went. Welcomed with a glass of Pimms, we then had the choice of trying our hand at Christmas decorations, picture weaving, fan decoupage, button art, pryography and crepe flowers. Between us we had a go at all activities and enjoyed the chat as well as the nibbles temptingly laid out for us.
How inspired were we? Well after a very informed talk from Susan Drage, very inspired! Her talk was 'Recycling with a Difference' and demonstrated a huge variety of ways to recycle all sorts of waste. Ring pulls and waste food were converted to jewellery, waste plastic and crisp packets turned into carrier bags, metal cans into lanterns, newspaper & magazines turned into a seemingly endless variety of new thing. I don't think we need to throw anything away again .......
WFWI organised a day trip to Oxford. 3 of our members went and here is their blog:
On a sunny July morning three lovely ladies climbed aboard the coach to Oxford. We were excited for the city that promised gleaming spires, culture, beautiful architecture but mostly a sumptuous lunch. After the essential coffee stop, no cake (sad times), we jostled with the many foreign students to bag ourselves a seat on the open top bus tour. So much history and so many famous names have been educated worked, lived and left their mark on this wonderful city, a whirlwind of information but a great way to see and learn so much in a short time. After the very important luscious lunch we felt ready to take to the streets. A quick visit to an artists gallery was followed by a walk, peeking into beautiful gardens and grounds until we reached the picture perfect Bridge of Sighs, a corridor connecting two parts of Hertford college completed in 1914. We had time for a visit to a College and aptly decided on Worcester College. It didn’t disappoint, classic architecture and the prettiest of gardens, complete with serene lily pond, unbelievable that we were in the middle of a busy city. Ten minutes to kill before pick-up so we bundled into the Ashmolean Museum obviously no time for a full visit but still lots of lovely things to see around the foyer and open areas. A lovely day in a gloriously beautiful city, we even had the sunshine. Thank you Oxford, we’ll be back!! |
