Just spent a lovely Sunday afternoon at Pershore Abbey listening to a musical medley with Fordante. Thanks to WFWI for organising the event along with the punch and beautiful canapés at the interval.
Earlier in October, we joined in with the Hobbies & Craft Event at Eckington Church. This was an event to showcase villagers' talents, particularly crafts and hobbies taken up during lockdowns, as well as providing an opportunity to meet up. We took a light-hearted approach to our display .... as hopefully you will see from the photos
This was a new venue, Bank House Hotel, and with a shortened format, ie half day rather than a full day; both were appreciated.
Two Eckington WI members attended and after the usual business, we were treated to an entertaining talk by Andrew Floyd, a florist and floral artist. Whilst talking, Andrew magically created several stunning displays which he modestly described as ‘simple’! We were very impressed but unfortunately whilst the displays formed part of the raffle prizes, neither of us managed to come home with any of the displays. At least, we have the photos…. We were delighted to welcome back Helen Plum of Just Gems to talk to us at our October meeting. Helen is able to mix science, facts and fun with her talks and this helps us to understand and appreciate the opal. She brought along examples of various opals for us to admire - I should have taken photos! We also were given a little insight into why Winchcombe is currently holding some of the most valuable mineral ore in the world. This was of course the Winchcombe meteorite and Helen was able to provide us with a personal perspective.
