For our first meeting of the year, we welcomed a local chef, Julie Coles. She talked to us about her early career, including her work at the London Savoy, at The Intercontinental (Park Lane) and in Canada. It was really interesting to hear the workings of the kitchens in these iconic hotels and how the chefs were encouraged to progress throughout their career. Fascinating insight in the life of a young chef. Fortunately for us, she also brought along canapes and for us to try, and chocolate brownies for us to take home - no need for biscuits with our cup of tea that night! Your 'blogger' was so busy trying out all the food, she forgot to take photos..... sorry ladies.
We like to get involved in our local community and one of our 'jobs' is looking after the Book Exchange in the village. This is an old red telephone box where villagers can come and see what books we have to offer. There are biographies, cookery books, novels both modern and classics along with a small variety of children's books. It is well used but sometimes, it gets too well used and needs a tidy up. So earlier this week, 3 WI members set about clearing it up, disposing of old and well-worn books and making it more welcoming of its users.
