We had several competitions of art, baking, craft and photography and had entries in all categories. Judging of the baking competition was by an independent judge and she had plenty of cakes to try! They all looked really inviting, particularly the fairy cakes and chocolate cakes. The art, craft and photography competitions were voted for by the visiting villagers and there was plenty of competition; it was difficult to choose a favourite as they were all so good. After judging and a well deserved cup of tea & scone, visitors could then browse through our WI displays, have a go at stone painting with Jo & Marilyn, knit & natter with Joan, listen to some wonderful handbell ringing with bell ringers led by Mary (and also have a go themselves), listen to a poem recital by Anne or watch a slide show "80 Years of EckingtonWI". No speaker at our September meeting as we were beginning our 80th Birthday Celebrations. First we made some cake boxes (see below) ready for the October meeting when we have our birthday party and cake. Next we had a film show of Eckington WI through the last 80 years; we were able to remember members past & present and see what we have been upto over the years.
Then something a little different: FOCUS GROUPS! We formed several small groups of members and then discussed our WI: did we communicate well with our members; what speakers would we like?; what activities or outings? All ideas were welcomed and we will be assessing the feedback to report back to our members. After a break for tea, it was business with reminders about our Open Day and our Birthday Meeting, then time for home. |
