For the past few years, our August Garden Party has been blessed with good weather. This year was no exception. Another sunny Wednesday afternoon and many of our WI members enjoyed an afternoon tea at Yarningale, hosted by the committee. Hats were optional wear but quite a few entered into the spirit with hats and summer dresses. As they entered the garden, our ladies were greeted with a glass of Pimms. Traditional Afternoon Tea with sandwiches of egg & cress sandwiches, cream cheese & cucumber, salmon and ham were followed by home made scones, cream & strawberries. Sipping Pimms and chatting with friends; what a lovely way to spend a summer afternoon!
Many thanks are due to Anne for allowing us to use her beautiful garden for the party and also to Abigail, Charlotte and Kiele for serving us. Well, this is our new website and our first 'blog'. I suppose this will replace our monthly news on our old site. Hopefully, I will be able to encourage others to write blogs and perhaps we will be able to get pictures here too. The honour of our first blog though covers our visit to the Lavender Fields at Snowshill in July.
Seven of Eckington WI ladies ventured out to the Lavender Farm at Snowshill on Monday 25 July. Lovely genteel start to the week. Whilst enjoying a well deserved cup of tea, we found ourselves sitting next to ladies from Marle Hill WI (Glos Federation) with whom we had an interesting chat; describing themselves as a perky WI, they described one of their evenings when their committee dressed as bunny girls! Not sure our committee is ready for that just yet, but perhaps ...... Anyway, no photos of the bunny girls but just as colourful, here are some of the fields instead. |
